The Glorious Dead..

This is one of the most interesting/disturbing photography projects I have come across in a long time. Paul Koudounaris apparently has a thing for the dead, this brave photographer travelled across Europe taking photographs of bone rooms and came across an abandoned little white chapel in Germany, where he found a skeleton dripping in jewels. He continued on his search and found two more skeletons also covered in jewels and gold.

These skeletons were fist discovered in Roman catacombs, they were thought to be martyrs from early Christian days and so were decorated because they had died for the glory of God. People would donate money and noble families would donate their own jewels and attires to dress the skeletons.
