When fashion meets installation….

I was watching tv the other day and I came across a show on japanese fashion, I can’t even remember what channel it was on but it was one of the most intriguing things I have seen in a while when it comes to fashion. It was an interview with a designer called Kunihiko Morinaga for Anrealage and basically, what was interesting about him was the fact that he tried to think about fashion and clothes in a different way. He wanted to experiment with proportions but by changing the shape of the mannequin. He explained that in fashion the mannequin is the basic form, so what happens if you change that form? If you make the mannequin short and fat? or really tall and skinny? The same jacket or dress will look different on each one. What would look quite boxy on a short fat mannequin will look very different on a normal sized one and a skinny one. His way of thinking is very different, very innovative, definitely fashion forward. I guess he kind of made me remember why I fell in love with design when I was about 11. He is just a brilliant artist. Check out more of his pieces- http://www.anrealage.com/ ImageImageImageImage
